its tomorrow. we have to "look proffesional". we're like 11-14 in middle school. i got my hair cut yesterday. it's layered now. like vanessa minillo's(sp?). thats wat my mom said.
Should I put my hair up or down in my orchestra festival?
Well if it won't get in your way while playing then show off your new do. If you just got it done, you will want everyone to see how nice it looks. Good Luck!

I nice updo is usually a bit more professional looking, but if you blow dry your hair to accentuate your layers, that would like nice too.
Consider a chignon:

Or a french twist:

Or even a simple ponytail with some shine serum from root to tip, so that the ponytail is very sleek!
Here is another site with some updos:

Or if you choose to wear it down, blow dry your hair piece by piece with a round brush (with your ends going in, not "flipped out"). Follow with a little hairspray and voila, you'll look very professional.
You may want to ask your mom to help you with any of these hair dos!

Is it short or long? It matters on the person too. I know several people that look more proffesional with their hair up and I know people that look more proffesional with their hair down.... I would say down for an orchestra festival.

Try a sleek, pulled back ponytail with a barrette or headband accent.
Straighten your layers first, making sure to get the frizz out from the roots. (Silky Sexy Hair anti-frizz serum works great for this. If you don't want to go to the salon, try Garnier which works just as well.) Remember: A little does a lot!
After you straighten your locks, brush your hair into a ponytail at the "crown" of your head so that it's high on the edge of your scalp, not on top of it.
For an accent, find a cute barrette or two and pin your bangs back (if you have any) and if you don't have bangs, use a stylish headband that matches your outfit.
It's professional enough to look mature, yet trendy so that you don't look too serious.
Hope it helps!

wear it down but make sure it's out of your face whether you wear a headband, wear it half up with a clippy, or back with bobby pins

Up looks more professional, but it can't look messy. If hair falls out everywhere and it just doesn't look neat, then keep it down.
Hope that helps!

Depends what instrument you play. I once was at at concert at the opera house and there was a clarinetist whose hair was down and it keep falling in her eyes. So every 2 seconds she had to push it back. It was really frustrating and bad performance technique. Put it up in a french roll or something similar. I say Put it up!!!
