Two-tone hair?

I've been looking this up online to no avail. What is the name of the hair coloring technique that seperates the top and bottom layers of the hair into two different colors? I found one lone article that calls it two-tone, but I think I'm missing the original name. Anyone know?

im pretty sure it's called two-toned. if you describe it to a hairstylist or call it that, im sure they'd know what you were talking about
